Chicago Heavyweights 2014
Last weekend Wicked competed in Chicago Heavyweights in Rockford, IL. We came into the tournament with 0 expectations - this would be our first time with a full roster at a sanctioned tournament.
As we cleated up on Saturday morning, we were excited, nervous, and hopeful that it wouldn't rain. We started our day off strong with a big win against Ohio's Flo, 13-5. Next game we were set to play Inferno - a Houston, Texas team. We were outmatched by their quickness and took a tough loss.
This was when the downpour started. Remaining games were canceled and everyone fled the fields as fast as they could! Our ladies spent the rest of the day hanging at the pool, playing laser tag, going to the movies, and later meeting up at Red Robin for a crazy giant team dinner.
On Sunday we had a 9am game against Pittsburgh's Hot Metal. We kept it close at the beginning but couldn't match up at the end. Hot Metal was very good competition. I would love to see Wicked battle them again. Our last game on Sunday at 1pm was against Ohana, who we had played twice at Texas 2 Finger. This time the tables were turned - the Wicked ladies didn't give them any slack. We came out with a 12-4 victory. Wicked went 2-2 on the tournament - we accomplished a lot! I think we would all call it a success.
Crazy, rainy weekend. Can't wait for sectionals!
