Last weekend Wicked took a trip up to Rockford, Illinois to compete in CHC. Though we drove there through insane winds, rain and countless lightning strikes, the weather was beautiful and clear all weekend.

Wicked started off the weekend seeded third, in a pool with (2) Phoenix Uprising and (6) Chicago Dish. Over the course of the weekend we got to play both teams twice, once in pool play and once again in the championship bracket, as every team in our pool was feisty and refused to let up on their opponent.

Our first game of the weekend was against Dish, who we had seen once previously at Select Flight in 2016. In the second point of the game Captain McKenzie "ice cream queen double D Dory astronaut beast" Geltz laid out for the score to get us AMPED. Dish's deep (haha get it, deep dish pizza) roster and speed is intimidating, but we stood strong throughout the game, earning D's when we needed them and focusing on O. #20 Nadine Rowen was not at all fazed by Dish's zone, receiving the disc every other throw and coming down with quite possibly every huck and 50/50 she was thrown. We finished the game 11-9 at cap. During our bye we went to cheer on Smokestack at a nearby field!

Our next game at 11:30 was against Phoenix Uprising from Arizona. Uprising came with the intensity and Wicked rose to the occasion. 7-3 at half, Amanda "Skittles" Johnson connects with Haley Johnson on a beautiful huck to continue our roll. Skittles and Haley continued to pair up all weekend to quickly progress the disc up-field. Skittles has also been nominated for best PUB handshake of the year award for her handshake with Jordan "JLo" Alonzo.  11-4 final.

Rounding off Saturday we crossed pools to play (1) Colorado Small Batch. Small Batch runs a side stack to use their long legs and speed to their advantage. The game was tight starting off, but a huge flick huck from handler Steph Rupp to deep receiver Taylor Simpson was just the start of our breakaway. Wicked took it to half 8-6 and pushed forward to 13-8, in the end winning 15-10.

PIZZA TIME!

Sunday started off with quarterfinals against Chicago Helix who had also gone undefeated Saturday. We pushed hard through our warm-ups to work out that soreness and get pumped for the day. One of our biggest highlights from the game is a boosty flick huck from JLo to Katie Lockee running deep and toeing the line just outside of the endzone. We work it in, Clare to Taylor. 14-7 final.

Progressing to the semis we rematched with Dish. They went up 0-3 to start the game, and what happened next proved how badly we wanted this tournament - we replied back with 4 of our own. A fantastic layout Dfrom Coffee Black shuts down their offense and gives us great field positioning, Clare to Malaina for the score, 7-5.  10-7 final.

The championship game ~*~*in the stadium~*~*~ gave us another rematch with Phoenix Uprising, who deserves major props for fighting to get to the 'ship with limited subs, yet fantastic attitudes. We had a great time playing them all weekend. Wicked finished the weekend strong with layout D'shand blocks and skies in the game to secure our tournament win. Final 12-8. #welovedisclips

We are exceptionally excited to attend TCT Elite-Select Challenge next month - we can't wait to see how we stack up against all of the incredible women's teams. See you then!
